Pepe found a stack of wavy wood trim pieces discarded from his neighbors kitchen. It made for the perfect red and white celebratory crown on his cupboard. The 1956 cover of the New Yorker magazine, set on the back panel inside the cabinet, was the inspiration Carolyn ran with while designing the piece. The illustration depicts demonstrators waiting for the sun on a rainy day in order to go out in the streets of Washington, DC. Pepe keeps his celebration glassware on the shelves waiting for the day his friends will toast with him as his winning candidate takes the podium!
